“I first joined Sertec in 2011 as a Technical Apprentice. Upon joining, I was immediately enrolled into a technical skills college, which aimed to give an appreciation into the basics of manufacturing.
Whilst attending this programme I was given the opportunity to help develop myself further by enrolling onto a foundation degree course for Manufacturing Engineering. After successfully completing both courses, there was only one more thing left to acquire- a full degree.
With the encouragement of Sertec behind me, I enrolled onto a Mechanical Engineering degree course at Birmingham City University and after a challenging three years, I am pleased to have successfully completed it with first class honours. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me along the way.”
“I started my apprenticeship back in 2011 as part of the technical apprentice programme which took four years to complete. The four years were a mix of offsite practical training and one day a week academic learning. The academic programme was a big part of the apprenticeship for me as I followed a two year B-Tec in mechanical engineering and then I went on to complete a two year foundation degree in manufacturing engineering.
These four years marked the end of my apprenticeship and I then joined the weld engineering team based at Wincaster house. During the first few months of this new job role I decided to take my academic learning higher. I undertook a BEng professional engineering degree with elective modules at Aston University, which I have now graduated from with first class honours.
Each mentor throughout my apprenticeship has been very supportive, and it is good to see young apprentices coming through the business following the same pathway. Thank you to everyone who has supported over the last 6 years at Sertec.”
“I started my HNC in manufacturing engineering in 2015 once I had successfully completed my BTEC, and I am proud now to say I have finished it by getting the highest grade possible – an overall distinction. I found it very interesting and challenging at certain times but I learnt a lot from my time at Solihull College.
I hope to carry on working for Sertec Springs & Wireforms indefinitely; I will always try new experiences to help develop my existing skills which will contribute to the continued success of Sertec.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me (past and present) on this ongoing journey to become successful and hope to become even more successful.”
